In 1989, a scholarship was established for student athletes who share the same traits and values of Ernie Davis and his high school coach, Marty Harrigan. Applicants are asked either to develop a project that raises awareness about Ernie's legacy or to volunteer for 44 hours while spreading the word. The scholarship is administered by the Community Foundation of Elmira-Corning and the Finger Lakes, Inc.

Ernie was and still is an incredible role model. This site is a resource page for students, parents, and community members interested in learning more about the scholarship and how to get involved in spreading the word. Learn more about the recently expanded opportunities for applicants. Read a PDF overview of the scholarship and apply by creating a log-in through the Community Foundation's student application form.

Ernie Davis Statue

Picture
The Ernie Davis Statue recently relocated to the Ernie Davis Academy at 933 Hoffman Street.  Here, “Ernie Davis Plaza” is built exactly 44 feet back from the street and the new pedestal it  stands on is exactly 44” square and 44” tall. Plans to enhance the plaza include placing engraved  granite pavers with words that describe Ernie’s core values.

The Ernie Davis Scholarship  Committee is seeking support to fund the new memorial that will commemorate Ernie Davis for  years to come. You can support the project by making a donation to the Statue Fund at the  Community Foundation. You can also support by buying a paver around the statue.
